Fair trade
Since 2009 we have only been purchasing recycling gold for our production. We are therefore relying entirely on gold which has been in circulation for many generations and thus no longer creates any new incentives for conventional, environmentally harmful mining.
We took another step with our Fairtrade Gold certification in 2016 (FLO-ID: 35016).
Since then, we have offered our customers the direct opportunity to promote small-scale gold mining and thus enable miners and their families to have a good life.
Certified since 2016
The Fairtrade certification always relates to the fine gold content – for a 585 yellow gold alloy, for example, to the 58.5% fine gold content.
Other metals required for the alloy (silver, copper, etc.) are not Fairtrade certified. However, these are obtained from RJC-certified suppliers.
Is “normal gold” worse?
No, not if it is obtained from us: Merkle only uses recycled gold, of which we are sure of the origin and which has been extracted from the cycle according to certified standards. Read more about our gold philosophy .
When you buy Fairtrade gold, however, you actively and directly support miners and their local communities.
